Team vision: Deliver a stable and robust Information Systems environment, to enable Mansion Group to bring in and retain customers.

The role:

  • Reporting to the Director of IT Operations
  • Systems administration services – including designing, building, tuning and backup and recovery for Linux systems
  • Participate as a key technical resource regarding technical elements of business enabling projects
  • Provide IT technical expertise to applications developers, along with other IT staff for systems development, deployment, installation and production support
  • Provide expert technical consulting in the design and development of infrastructure systems, to ensure a robust and stable environment
  • Participate in formulating and implementing IT standards and policies to support the operational environment and business direction
  • Develop all supporting technical documentation to facilitate consistency and quality of installations, systems upgrades and recovery/repair
  • Develop and implement processes to assist with capacity planning, availability management and performance tuning to support effective operational management
  • Ensure the application of best practice with regard to implementation of layered systems products across system infrastructure
  • Design, implement and provide continual improvements to new and existing hardware platforms and their operating environments, to support ongoing business change and strategy
  • Advise and assist with the operation of third level systems support and monitoring tools, in order to maintain Mansion systems
  • Out of hours availability for 3rd level escalation of production issues, as per the Escalation Policy
  • Leading and motivating the Infrastructure team to provide a good level of stability and performance to the business
  • Develop management and information reports to the business as required

The person:

  • At least 5 years experience designing and implementing Linux and Wintel operating environments – in heterogeneous and virtual (VMWare) environments
  • At least 3 years experience in designing and implementing layer application products, such as Apache, PHP, MySQL, Postgres, Nagios, PHP, SVN, GIT and Bamboo
  • At least 3 years experience designing and implementing clustering technologies
  • At least 3 years working with SAN technologies, EMC technologies and similar
  • At least 3 years designing and implementing backup solutions, including Netbackup backup/recovery systems
  • At least 3 years experience with large scale web applications
  • Demonstrated tolerance of high workloads and multiple changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and issues at all levels
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise work load
  • Effective awareness of current IT issues and technology
  • Demonstrated documentation skills
  • Provide effective support, policy and procedures documentation
  • Understand and drive initiatives to support change control, along with capacity planning and operational integrity
  • Conceive and develop effective systems to proactively support and manage business operations
  • Advanced working knowledge of word processor, pc database, and spreadsheet packages
  • High degree of competency using diagramming tools, to effectively present complex and technical environments
  • Experience in supervising and leading infrastructure teams


  • Computer Science or IT related degree
  • Working knowledge of IT and quality international standards
  • Experience in supporting and developing methodologies for large RDBMS (Oracle)
  • Experience in Agile development methodology
  • Demonstrated experience in MySQL and PostgreSQL database administration, and reporting/application analysis
  • Solaris 10 Administrator SCSA
